About Us

Dr. John Philip Wilmeth was born in Hartsville SC. After graduation from Hartsville High School, he attended Yale University earning a BS in biology in 1973.  After serving four years in the United States Navy, he enrolled at the Medical University of SC in Charleston and graduated in 1981.  Following a one year internship, he was a resident in ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL.  He completed the residency and then one year of fellowship training at Emory University in Atlanta, GA before coming to Anderson, SC in 1986.

Since beginning practice in Anderson, Dr. Wilmeth has examined hundreds of thousands of patients and performed well over 20,000 surgeries. His surgical experience includes retina/vitreous, glaucoma, cornea, pediatrics and strabismus, as well as plastic surgery, but the majority of these have been cataract and refractive. Dr. Wilmeth has also performed many, many thousands of lasers of all types over the years and has experience with virtually all ophthalmic lasers.  He is currently using the new Allegretto Wavelight laser exclusively for Laser Vision Correction.
